Sale Yard Rebuild. What has changed?

After a fireball induced false start & tenacious recovery, Frank VanBael has awed us once again with the rebuild of the Gyranda yards and selling centre.

It look spectacular!  As difficult a decision as it was to take down the beautiful 58 year old wooden yards (emotionally and financially), it was certainly time. The setting, however hasn’t changed, and the old rule that Burnett had to apply – Thou shalt not remove a tree – when they were first built in ’67 remains in place (much to Connor’s chagrin when scratching his head at “another tree in the gateway”).

How you view the bulls is entirely different – especially the feature pens for the Elite team – and many of the concepts put into play at these yards are entirely new to industry. Well worth a trip to Gyranda on the open Day (August 14) or the sale (September 20) just to satisfy your curiosity.

Paddock to Palate Success.

Another great day out for Gyranda genetics in the recent RNA Paddock to Palate weight gain competition. With two pens in the 70 day section we picked up second and third. We also performed well in the 100 day sections with the consistency of cattle performance a highlight. It follows a blue ribbon in the 70 day section at the 2024 competition and multiple wins across both 100 day and 70 day since we first entered in 2015.

At the Callide Dawson Beef Carcase Competition amidst a record breaking field, Gyranda also took away a 4th for a single grainfed trade steer and 5th place for single grainfed trade heifer.

Paddock Bulls 2025. Available now.

First round of semen testing is done and dusted with a strong team of bulls available right now to go to work. These bulls; aged 19-21 months are fully vaccinated, VBBSE qualified and present as a good tropical line.   At $5000 and $6000 each, in my view, these bulls offer tremendous value for money and some of our largest customers just buy at this time of year every year. They take them home, generally to acclimatise them for a few months before joining. They buy on structure (sheath, feet, head, coat, temperament), comfortable in the knowledge that the bulls will grow out well.  Pollness is a feature with nearly 90% poll and 18 Homozygous poll. Over 70% are better than breed average for their indexes.

Sale Team ’25.

Sale bulls for ’25 are onto crop and starting to really look like the sires they will grow into. This year we hope to have 100 on hand to test out the new yards. Some fascinating genetics coming through again with around a third by new sires.

Fabulous Fifties and beyond

A few weeks ago, Nikki celebrated her 50th birthday doing what she loved as a kid here at Gyranda – clambering around the mountains and sharing stories by the campfire.

Being able to share moments like these with those who help shape our lives is an extraordinary privilege.  We are so grateful to have you each along for the ride with us and excited for what’s ahead …….  including more celebrations following the sale this year. So mark September 20 in your diary & keep your ear to the ground.
